Kevin Evans, Sr. MCP, MCP +I, MCSE, CCNA

Kevin Evans, Sr. currently serves as President and Chief Technology Officer for Convenient Computing, Inc.  Kevin provides a unique blend of technical experience and expertise in both the corporate and education worlds. 

Kevin worked in the corporate industry for 10 years as a Network Administrator and Programmer Analyst for a medical association involved with the continuing medical education of surgeons.  During this time, he formed his own company, Convenient Computing, Inc.  Contract work with Convenient Computing, Inc. included the set up of numerous complete Networks including LAN/WAN and dedicated Internet connection with various companies.  These companies included ARCO Corp (EnPointe), Accurate Computer Technology, Compton Unified School District, New Millennium Secondary School, and many others.

Compton Unified School District (CUSD) was so impressed with Kevin’s work they brought him onboard as their Director of Information Technology.  For the past ten years, Mr. Evans has made significant contributions to the technology department and the entire district.  His duties included managing the CUSD technical department with over 25 employees, maintaining connectivity for 40 school and office locations, working with vendors, and providing guidance in the information technology and support arena.  During his tenure, he designed and implemented the complete replacement of the data infrastructure and primary software systems to meet the needs of the school district and state mandated compliance demands.  Kevin was personally responsible for bringing the district over 40 million dollars in E-Rate funds.  Kevin also managed the student information system for over 30,000 students while providing professional development, support, and guidance to the entire district in their data entry and maintenance of accurate student record keeping.

Kevin’s latest and exciting venture is his work with Charter Schools.  Seeing Charter Schools as a promise of the future and innovation in education, Kevin has focused his technical and educational expertise in the successful start-up and maintenance of new Charter Schools and the renewing and reinforcing of technology in existing schools.  It is due to Kevin’s well-rounded experience and his vision for the future of education that he quickly understands the needs of his client and aligns his work to their desired outcomes.  

Dr. Karen L. Whisnant currently holds the title of Chief Academic and Compliance Officer for Convenient Computing, Inc.  With more than 20 years of experience in public education, Dr. Whisnant now brings this expertise into the growing Charter School movement.

Dr. Whisnant has served as an elementary and high school principal.  She has taught at the elementary and middle school levels.  She has also worked at the district office level as Director of English Learner Services for Secondary Schools and as the LEA CALPADS administrator.  In addition, she has taught teacher methods and masters classes as an adjunct college professor.  As an experienced administrator and college professor, she holds the right balance of education, diverse experiences, vision, leadership skills, and passion for the needs of students.

Dr. Whisnant’s personal and professional history has been one of continuous growth and life long learning.  She holds a Doctor of Education Degree in Organizational Leadership, a Master’s Degree in Education, majoring in curriculum and instruction, an Administrative Services Credential, a Louisiana teaching credential, and a California Clear Teaching Credential with a CLAD certificate.  Her dissertation topic was on instructional strategies that increase literacy achievement in English Learners.  Currently her dissertation written for elementary English Learners is being replicated for high school students.  She serves as a member of this dissertation committee.

Dr. Whisnant has presented on many topics, some of which include: Data Driven Decision Making, Standards-Based Instructional Practices, Closing the Achievement Gap, Response to Intervention, Professional Learning Communities, Data Management, and Planning for the Learning Needs of English Learners.  As a result of vision setting, open communication, and collaborative leadership, Dr. Whisnant is able to align stakeholders around a common vision for student engagement and increased academic achievement.

Integral to Dr. Whisnant’s work is the integration of technology for student engagement and learning.  Her background includes, not only writing technology plans, but also using these plans to guide decision making at the site level for the use of technology to prepare students for a global future and academic success.

Her recent work with Charter Schools has proven to be her most exciting venture yet.  She has had the opportunity to bring her rich, diverse, and innovative background into the Charter School vision and movement.  This vision and movement to transform education to empower learners and prepare them for the 21st century, is a work that has Dr. Whisnant’s full dedication and commitment.
